Prior to beginning work on this assignment, review the Multigenerational Center Activity (Links to an external site.).

Workshop Proposal
In your Summative Assignment, imagine that your supervisor at the Multigenerational Center has requested a proposal for a workshop to be presented by you at the center. Your workshop proposal will be a topic of your choice based on your field of study and the needs of your audience. You will use the Multigenerational Center Activity from Week 1 to understand your audience and to choose a topic for your workshop. Your supervisor has requested that you use the given Summative Template  downloadto ensure that all components are comprehensively addressed. Since this is a substantial project for a new employee, your supervisor (instructor) will review major components of your proposal before your final submission.

Assignment Directions
There are multiple parts to this assignment. Please be sure to review the template completely, as well as the due dates, to ensure that you are addressing your supervisor’s request. Review this completed Summative Template with Flyer example  download.

Part 1B: Workshop Flyer
Use the Summative Template, and fill out this section due in Week 3. Your supervisor would also like you to create a flyer to begin generating interest for your upcoming workshop. However, since this is a document that will be displayed throughout the center, your supervisor has requested you create this and share it with your peers at the center for feedback, before public display. The one-page flyer can be completed in Word, Publisher, PowerPoint, or another option of your choice. This portion of the assignment will be submitted in the Week 3 discussion forum. Due in Week 4

Part 2: Roadblocks
Your supervisor made suggestions in your first draft. You will revise your original work based on your supervisor’s (instructor’s) feedback. Think about your target audience, and anticipate two possible issues or roadblocks that may arise. Using your background knowledge of your field of study, share two possible solutions for each roadblock. To substantiate your workshop topic and demonstrate the importance of this topic to your director, review the Professional Standards by Program table  download for your field of study. You will choose two of the following standards and explain how they represent the objective of your workshop:

  • Environment
  • Supplies
  • Roadblock #1
  • Solution #1
  • Solution #2
  • Roadblock #2
  • Solution #1
  • Solution #2
  • Professional Standard #1 and Explanation
  • Professional Standard #2 and Explanation

Part 3: Environment and Materials
Use the Summative Template, and fill out this section due in Week 4. Your supervisor is impressed with your Workshop Proposal at this point and has permitted you to continue working on your proposal. This week you will continue filling out the Summative Template for your Workshop Proposal. Using the Welcome to the Ashford University Multigenerational Center! interactive from Week 1 as a guide, you will describe the space you will use to deliver your workshop. Please be sure to name one of the areas shown in the Week 1 interactive, and explain why this is the ideal space for your workshop. You will include a complete list of all materials necessary to have a successful workshop. Review the rooms and locations from the interactive to determine if specific furniture needs to be included as well. All good presenters prepare for the unexpected. Think about your target audience, and anticipate two possible issues or roadblocks that may arise. Using your background knowledge of your field of study, share two possible solutions for each roadblock. To substantiate your workshop topic and to demonstrate the importance of this topic to your director, review the Professional Standards table for your field of study (included in the course shell). You will choose two of these standards and explain how they represent the objective of your workshop.

Template:

  • Describe the environment or the space needed to deliver your workshop.
  • List the needs and/or supplies for the Workshop.
  • Describe two possible roadblocks and two corresponding solutions for each roadblock.
  • List two professional standards from your field of study.
  • Explain how the two standards support your content.

Due in Week 5

Part 4: Strategies
Use the Summative Template and fill out this section due in Week 5. In the final part of the Workshop Plan, you complete the final two components of the Summative Template. First you will review the Ashford University Multigenerational Center Activity in Week 1 again and decide which other groups (field of study?) would either benefit from your workshop presentation or could be incorporated somehow. For example, if your field of study is ECE, and you have created a workshop for preschool students to learn specific yoga poses, ask yourself how you could include one of the senior groups that meet at the center as well. The best workshops are those that keep teaching. Think of the positive relationships this could foster! In addition, you will include two strategies (using your text as a guide) to deliver the workshop objective.

Template:

  • Partnerships: Identify which groups at the Multigenerational Center could also benefit from the workshop. (Before, during, or after the workshop.)
  • Strategies: Identify two strategies to deliver your workshop.

Your Final Draft will be your completed Summative Template  downloadincluding the necessary revisions based on the Week 3 feedback.

Climate and Learning Environment<

Each of the positions or jobs listed in Week 1 take place in a specific location within the Multigenerational Center. As a future employee of one of these spaces, you will be designing the environment in which you will work. Depending on your field of study and/or your job role, the questions you might ask yourself and the environmental factors you may consider could vary. For example:

  • As a librarian what are the things that will be important to consider? Integration of technology, lighting, available resources, and so forth will all be important to the design of each environment. Learning environment design for both children and adults has been shown to have tremendous impact on learning.
  • As an instructional designer, consider the different elements that should be considered when presenting material digitally or when creating an online classroom. How will your clients interact? What will their environment need to be like? Sometimes the environment in which instruction will take place will influence the design of the learning materials or activities. If you have selected to work with the senior center, there are even more considerations for an environment that is suitable for seniors. Young children also have unique needs.
  • And so on for each program…

To prepare for this post:

Consider thinking of outside-the-box opportunities for creativity and innovation in the space that you are designing such as collaborative learning space, interactive social environments, noise, and supervision of clients.

In your initial post,

  • Include the position and environment in which you will be working in the learning center.
  • Describe the ideal environment that includes
    • The physical setup
    • Any special considerations as well as an explanation of why you have selected to set things up the way that you are.
    • At least one out-of-the box opportunity for creativity and innovation and an explanation to why you have included this

Guided Response: Select two students to respond to who are in a position that is different from the one you chose (if possible). Ask clarifying questions, and provide your personal feedback on their ideal space designs. Include one additional idea to add to your peers’ space designs.

Ethical Scenarios

Regardless of your field of study, you will encounter ethical issues along the way that will require difficult choices. The best way to problem solve is to use your Professional Standards by Program table  downloadas a guide. In this discussion forum, each program has a scenario to read, reflect on, and problem-solve using the knowledge you have gained from your degree program in conjunction with your professional standards.

To prepare for this Discussion,

In the Professional Standards by Program table, follow the link corresponding to your program’s professional standards.

In your initial post,

  • List the title of your scenario.
  • Copy and paste the specific professional standard that will help you solve this ethical dilemma.
  • Respond to the following question:
    • Why did you choose the standard you did?
  • Describe the steps you would take to solve this problem.
  • Create an ethical scenario of your own that pertains to your field of study for your peers to solve. Be sure that your scenario is detailed enough so that your peers from a different field of study can understand the situation and problem solve.

Guided Response: Review several of your peers’ responses. Respond to at least two of your peers by addressing the following:

  • Choose one of your program’s professional standards that is applicable to each scenario.
  • List the professional standard in your response.
  • Provide a possible solution to your peer’s posted scenario, and include enough details, so it is clear.

Post Written Assignment Summative Template Part 1<

In this discussion forum, you will submit the same written assignment, (included all attachments) the first draft of your workshop plan that you submitted to your instructor in Week 3. In this forum, your peers will take the time to offer you suggestions regarding your plan, in addition to what was recommended by your instructor. Your instructor will not be responding to you again in this Forum. This Discussion Forum is for students only. This additional feedback will allow you to improve your plan before you submit the final draft! As a reminder, constructive feedback is how we all improve.

*PLEASE NOTE: Your instructor will NOT be participating in this Forum.  Your instructor offered feedback on this assignment in the Week Three Written Assignment Template.

Guided Response: You will choose one peer to respond to in this forum. Please choose a peer that has not had the benefit of other peer’s feedback. This way everyone will have the advantage of additional comments.

Share your thoughts with your peer using the following questions as a guide:

  • What do you think about the workshop itself? Based on the workshop description what do you think the popularity will be? Will it be engaging? What could your classmate add to the description to entice more clients to attend the workshop?
  • If you were your peer’s supervisor, what suggestions would you make to ensure that the workshop runs smoothly? Is there anything you would change, add, or delete?
